چکیده

Modal languages were originally based on the possible-world approach proposed by Lewis, Carnap and others. In other words, modal languages were originally designed to talk about necessity (the box) and possibility (the diamond). Nowadays, modal languages (and certain natural extensions like dynamic languages, μ-calculus language, . . . ) are viewed as tools for analyzing the properties of Kripke structures. For instance, the box can enjoy different meanings like “after the execution of the program terminates”, “according to my knowledge”, “it is provable in Peano arithmetic”, . . . This explains why in recent decades modal languages have been successfully applied to numerous fields: computer science (e.g., artificial intelligence, program verification, database theory, distributed computing, spatial reasoning), epistemology, pure mathematics, game theory, . . . But, what is a modal language? Let us fix a set Prop of (atomic) propositions and a set Mod of modalities. Then, modal formulas are defined by the rule:

Strict fixed points of '{C}iri'{c}-generalized weak quasicontractive multi-valued mappings of integral type

‎‎Many authors such as Amini-Harandi‎, ‎Rezapour ‎et al., ‎Kadelburg ‎et al.‎‎, ‎have tried to find at least one fixed point for quasi-contractions when $alphain[frac{1}{2}‎, ‎1)$ but no clear answer exists right now and many of them either have failed or changed to a lighter version‎. In this paper‎, ‎we introduce some new strict fixed point results in the set of multi-valued '{C}iri'{c}-gener...

Congestion Status Identification Using Slack Based Models in Data Envelopment Analysis

Congestion is a wasteful stage of the production process where outputs are reduced due to excessive amount of inputs. There are several approaches in data envelopment analysis (DEA) literatures to treat congestion. The concept of strong and weak congestion first developed by Tone and Sahoo [Tone, K., Sahoo, B.K., 2004. Degree of scale economies and congestion: A unified DEA approach. European J...

Haskell Is Not Not ML

We present a typed calculus IL (“intermediate language”) which supports the embedding of ML-like (strict, eager) and Haskell-like (non-strict, lazy) languages, without favoring either. IL’s type system includes negation (continuations), but not implication (function arrow). Within IL we find that lifted sums and products can be represented as the double negation of their unlifted counterparts. ...

Complexity of Strict Implication

The aim of the present paper is to analyze the complexity of strict implication (together with falsum, conjunction and disjunction). We prove that Ladner’s Theorem remains valid when we restrict the language to the strict implication fragment, and that the same holds for Hemaspaandra’s Theorem. As a consequence we have that the validity problem for most standard normal modal logics is the same ...

Using strict implication in background theories for abductive tasks

Abduction is usually defined in terms of classical logical consequence. In this paper we substitute this ’inferential parameter’ by the notion of strict implication. By doing so we hope to put more of the intended meaning of the abductive explanative relation into the background theory. By using strict rather than material implication static domain knowledge for abductive tasks can deal with so...
